Khamlane Halsackda - Death is the Plant (2005)

This piece was part of the White Christmas season at The Place. (Press release here.)

Listen to the following excerpts:

Deborah Tiso - "Crimes" dance film (2005)

Details: This short film by Deborah Tiso was created as part of Choreodrome 2005 at The Place. It borrows ideas from the films of Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone, and is concerned with the idea of threeness.

Tom Dale - 'Duality' and 'I Infinite' (2004-2005)

These projects started with a concept of duality - of two contrasting performance spaces created with the use of projection as a light source, one space red and the other white.
In the first Duality project, performed in July 2004, we researched the use of animation as a light source in a red space. Listen to a sample from this piece here.

This was followed in October/November of 2004 with performances of I Infinite. This piece is performed in a bleached-out white space with back-projected animation. Tom has performed it many times since, and was recently invited to perform it as part of the White Christmas season at The Place (December 2005). Listen to an excerpt here.

In the spring of 2005 we were funded by the Arts Council to create a revised and extended version of the Duality projected, combining both the red and white spaces, performed by four dancers. This has been shown several times including at venues in Chelmsford and at The Place. Tom was later interviewed on Resonance FM about his work and ideas, where they played the 'trio' section (see pt8 below).

Listen to the following extracts:

Hilary Stainsby - Random Dance AWOL (2004)

Choreographed by Hilary Stainsby, this project was performed at The Place as part of Random Dance AWOL, an event showcasing pieces choreographed by the Random dancers.

Listen to the music here - it is very ambient, based on ideas of stasis and passing traffic; and is created almost entirely from resonant electric guitar chords, electronically manipulated.

Room to Manoeuvre (2003)

Here is a selection of my favourite bits of music from the Room to Manoeuvre piece, choreographed by Debbie Tiso:
See my previous post about Room to Manoeuvre here, containing links to the 'road movie' film which uses the Psycho remix. There is also a Room to Manoeuvre minisite.

Electronica Selections

This is a collection of some old electronica stuff...

In 2002 I did these experiments with loop-based electronica in a vaguely warpish idiom. Click here to browse these tunes.

Have a few older excerpts still to add.

Debbie Tiso - "Vanishing Point" dance film (2004)

Dark and brooding, originally inspired by the B-movie hammer horror genre. No monsters, but an Anthony Gormley, which is much more scary.

Debbie Tiso - "Beach Studies" dance film (2004)

Details: a pilot film for South East Dance Agency, shown at the Brighton Arts Festival in May 2004. The film and music are inspired by the work of Tati. This has to rank amongst the silliest music I have ever written, and that is saying something. Perhaps it is the melodica, an egregiously silly instrument.

Performers: Lee Clayden, Alice Sara, Scott Smith, Jenny Tattersall
Camera: Roswitha Chesher

The music is constructed from lo-fi retro jazz loops.
